"For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that I should heal them." Matthew 13:15 |
Dear saints and faithful brethren,
We sometimes wonder . . .
Has the world grown more apathetic and indifferent toward the Gospel than it was even before the Lord Jesus first came into it? It can appear to be that way as we embrace His love and labor to share it with an unyielding world around us. In our effort to bring life into this dying world, every day we meet people that are content to remain in their misery, trying to squeeze enjoyment out of the dark pleasures of sin. The blackness in which they dwell does not seem to bother them at all. Yet, it moves them step-by-step towards ultimate condemnation and eternal separation from the overwhelming love of God and the joy of His presence.
Was it much different when the Lord Jesus came and He proclaimed, "But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplace and calling to their companions and saying: 'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we mourned to you and you did not lament.' " (Matthew 11:16-17)
The situation in our churches is sometimes not much different than that of synagogues and the scribes and the Pharisees of those days. "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 11:8)
While we are tempted to lose heart and open the door to defeat and discouragement, we are reminded that the beautiful bride of Christ is alive in Him and eagerly waiting for her Groom to come and take her home to His glory. She has kept herself pure and undefiled from the world and her love for Him has grown stronger as the day of His coming has grown closer. Though the world hates her and rejects her because it rejected Him, her eyes are fixed upon Him and the hope of seeing Him purifies her as He is pure.
And we move onward, with renewed hope!

We are blessed to serve those whose hope is in the Lord Jesus and Him alone. We visit the elderly and sick and lonely widows and widowers. Through our visits, they are reminded that they are not alone. Rather, they have a family in Christ Jesus the Lord. We go to serve and encourage, yet we leave encouraged by their relentless faith and hope in the midst of their hard circumstances. It is the season of firewood provisions for winter. We also bring them a sack of potatoes when we visit at this time of year. They are thankful for every little bit of help, but mostly for our visits. (see photo to left) In Vaslui, our EEO worker witnessed to a sick 94 year old man who kept asking him to come back. "Next time", he says, next time he will give his life to the Lord. The worker came back a few times and the old man kept saying that he was not ready. Then one day he called the EEO brother and asked him to come over for he was ready to give his life to the Lord. After he prayed and committed his life to Jesus, the EEO brother told him that the following Sunday he could get baptized if he chose to do so. "I can't wait until next Sunday! You will have to baptize me right now!" So they did! Praise the Lord that there is no age at which we are told old to receive Jesus. So long as we have breath . . . |
In Moldova, brother Viorel works hard in helping a few orphans whose parents are either in prison, at work in Europe or deceased. He trains them in the way they should go with the love of a father as he himself grew up an orphan and understands the physical and emotional needs these children have. Some like Alexandru, who is a senior in high school, love the Lord and trust that He has a great plan for their lives. Alexandru is very active in his assembly and a good student in school. We pray he will enter a University in Chisinau the capital of Moldova. (see photo to right) Our work is difficult sometimes but always encouraging because we know we are walking in the will of God. It is His will to go and visit the sick and care for the widows and the orphans. We couldn't do this work without your support and prayers and we want to thank you for partnering with us and the Lord in this ministry. To Him be all glory and honor! |
