"This Book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable.
Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.
It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you.
. . . It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. . . . It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents."

Dear saints and faithful brethren,

May His grace and peace abound in you as we enter the new year! May our hearts be yearning more for Him and may it be more visible to the world that He is the center of our lives and He is our Lord and King!

As we visit the widows in our counties, we always open the Word of God and read to them from the Scriptures. For those of them who cannot read, or are too ill or eyes too dim, our monthly visits with them provide their only opportunity to hear God’s Word. They listen with tears in their eyes and are encouraged and comforted. Some of them live alone and others are cared for by an unsaved son or daughter who, in some cases, do not treat them kindly. One widow we regularly visit is persecuted by her own unsaved daughter. When we come to visit, such family members leave the room and will not return until after we leave.

Friends, we need to remember our Lord Jesus, who for the joy that was set before Him, suffered the cross and the shame. That joy was you and I who have been saved in order to be done with living for ourselves and to start living for Him who died for us.

The Word of God brings healing to their hurting hearts, and we praise the Lord for it! Our visits, the love we endeavor to share and the little help we provide that comes all the way from America, is not only a demonstration of God's love and faithfulness to our sisters in Christ, but also a testimony to the unsaved caregivers. Sometimes they are intrigued by this kind of love that these "strangers" show to their mother, and they just hang out, watch us and listen to what we have to say. They may leave the room for a minute and come back with another curious person or more, providing an opportunity and joy to share the Gospel.

One of the widows we visit in a village outside of Dorohoi, is 91 years old and a caregiver to her disabled daughter. We pray for God's provision of a caregiver for both of them. There is much joy in their room when we come to visit, when we pray with them, sing with them and read the Word to them. The Word of God is comforting and uplifting to them. When it is our time to leave, they plead with us to stay a little while longer and to read more out of the holy Word of God.

In one of the assemblies outside of Bacau, a couple in their fifties are raising their grandson whose parents left to work somewhere in Europe. The ten year old grandson has a great memory and his grandparents have him memorize entire chapters from the Bible and recite them on Sunday at the morning service. He is such an encouragement to the small village assembly and to us! God's Word is so precious.

"It has a word of peace for the time of peril, a word of comfort for the time of calamity, a word of light for the hour of darkness. Its oracles are repeated in the assembly of the people and its counsels whispered in the ear of the lonely. The wicked and the proud tremble at its warnings, but to the wounded and the penitent it has a mother’s voice." (Henry van Dyke)

It is our prayer that we will lift the Word of God high this year in each of our homes and our personal lives, that we would allow it to permeate every area of our hearts and make us more like our Lord Jesus!

In His love,
